Decks & Docks acquires J&W Lumber, expanding into Southern California market

Florida-based Decks & Docks Co. has acquired Escondido-headquartered J&W Lumber, gaining six Southern California locations and establishing its first presence on the West Coast.

Escondido's J&W Lumber, a longtime supplier of decking and outdoor building materials, has acquired by Decks & Docks Co., for an undisclosed amount. It marks Decks & Docks entry into the West Coast market.

Headquartered in Clearwater, Fla., Decks & Docks, announced the acquisition Monday, saying it will expand its footprint through J&W's six retail locations serving customers across Southern California.

J&W Lumber, founded in 1958, supplies decking, railing and related outdoor building products to homeowners, contractors, municipalities, dealers, manufacturers and architects throughout the region.

Under the agreement, J&W will continue operating under its existing name. Owner Clyde Jennings will remain in charge of the company, and all employees will be retained, according to both companies.

Decks & Docks chief executive officer Shawn Roberts said the acquisition aligns with the company's strategy of expanding its geographic reach while building on J&W's established reputation and customer relationships.

J&W was founded by Charley Jennings nearly seven decades ago and has grown into one of Southern California's leading suppliers of premium outdoor building materials.

"Today marks a new development for us but in practice it is a continuation of J&W's values and longstanding way of doing business," Clyde Jennings said in a statement. "My team and I are excited about the future and continuing to serve customers and grow in partnership with Decks & Docks."

Decks & Docks president Tyler Wallace described Southern California as an attractive market because of its year-round outdoor lifestyle, and demand for decking and outdoor living products.

The acquisition represents the latest expansion for Decks & Docks, a specialty distributor focused on composite decking and outdoor living products.

Trenam Law served as legal advisor and Grant Thornton Stax served as financial advisor to Decks & Docks. Procopio served as legal advisor and RA Capital served as financial advisor to J&W Lumber.
