Fox Point Farms, a 21-acre mixed-use community built around a working organic farm, has been named Mixed-Use Community of the Year at the 2026 Gold Nugget Awards.
The Encinitas development, which includes 250 homes, received the top honor July 29 at an awards ceremony in San Diego. The annual Gold Nugget Awards are presented by the California Building Industry Association and Pacific Coast Builders Conference and recognize outstanding residential, commercial and community developments.
This year's competition drew more than 800 entries from across the United States and internationally.
Fox Point Farms, at 1200 Fox Point Farms Lane, was created by Shea Homes and Nolen Communities. In addition to the Mixed-Use Community of the Year award, the project received Gold Nugget awards for Best Community Land Plan and Best Community Amenity.
It also received merit awards for Best Infill Community and Best Landscape Architecture.
"Fox Point Farms is an 'agrihood' community built around a 5.5-acre working farm and focused on farm-to-table, agricultural themes," said Paul Barnes, president of Shea Homes San Diego, in a statement.
Barnes said Fox Point Farms is also California's first WELL-certified residential community, a designation focused on features intended to promote residents' health and well-being.
Those features include advanced air and water filtration systems and the use of low-VOC and low-emission building materials, according to the developers.
The community's amenities include a brewery and coffee roastery, edible gardens, walking trails, a produce market, farming classes and wellness programs. The regenerative farm is another central component of the development.
The project team included Shea Homes, Nolen Communities, Stark Architecture, SteinbergHart, Schmidt Design Group, Catalina Design Group and PLSA Engineering.
Fox Point Farms is now sold out but continues to operate as a model for combining housing, agriculture, community amenities and wellness-oriented design in a coastal North County development.
